Varicose veins, also known as venous insufficiency, are disorders of blood circulation due to the deterioration of the valves in the vessels collecting dirty blood under the skin. With the contraction of the leg muscles, the blood goes to the liver.
The blood that goes into the liver begins to come back under the influence of gravity. However, in patients with varicose veins, the valves that prevent the return of blood have been impaired due to hereditary or other reasons. Therefore, dirty blood accumulates in the vessels and varicose veins occur.
The varicose veins are usually seen in those who require a lot of standing and work hard. Pregnancy, menopause, old age and leg injuries can be the causes.
